Back at home base for the summer months until my next European book tour in September. Usually Vancouver is remarkably lovely in June, but this time around it’s been a bit rainy.
Some interesting facts about Vancouver:
- Vancouver is the third largest film production centre in North America after Los Angeles and New York. Okay, so you probably knew that already.
- But I’ll bet you didn’t know that our Stanley Park is a massive 1001 acre urban oasis 10% larger than New York’s Central Park. Suck it, New York.
- Vancouver has the mildest climate in Canada. Although, it receives on average, 1,589mm of rain per year. It’s also probably the place where people complain about the climate the most.
Oh, and it’s highly likely we’re infested by vampires. And elves. Vampire elves?

Vampire elves? Yeah, I can totally see it, haha!
Canada has a lot of wilds and I love that in the big cities we tend to make more of an effort to have green spaces. Stanley Park is one of my favourites!

Urban parks are one of my favourite things in the world. Stanley Park is amazing. Warsaw in Poland also has a couple of lovely urban parks. London has a couple of my favourites: Hyde Park and Regent’s Park.

I haven’t gone to Poland yet, but it’s definitely on my list (for many reasons). As for London (which I’ll hopefully be calling home next year when I move out there) I plan on exploring more of Hyde Park and Regent’s Park! As well as much of the other parts of the country.
I went to the Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park last year, which was quite a treat! It reminded me of a wintery, European version of the Calgary Stampede, what with all it’s carnival rides, unique food kiosks and beer gardens (though I’m a mulled wine gal myself). If you haven’t had the chance to go I recommend it! I think I preferred it over my local 10-day rodeo…
