Nobody’s God
A divinely surreal comedy

Congratulations, you’re about to be made a god!
Now you just need to decide which god you’d like to be. The only problem, of course, is that all the really great things to be god of are already taken, which only leaves crappy things. So, you know, choose wisely . . .
Story Behind The Story
Without attempting to explain the concept of existentialism in depth (and thus reveal just how limited my knowledge of the subject is), existentialism posits that the universe has no inherent meaning. No purpose. No destiny. Nada. Sounds depressing, maybe even futile? It is! But, see, that’s the great thing about existentialism: absent an inherent meaning to the universe, and accepting that human beings seem incapable of getting through the day without some sense of their lives having meaning, existentialist thinkers invite us to decide for ourselves what meaning we choose to place on our lives. Want to believe good deeds and honesty are the essence of your being? Go for it! Want to believe that lying is perfectly acceptable and that greed is good? Go with god! Well, don’t go with god – not unless you want to believe in something while also believing that something probably doesn’t exist. Whatever you choose to define as meaningful, existentialism only requires that you then live your life authentically to that set of meanings. So no saying you find meaning in adventure if all you do is sit on the couch watching reruns of Downton Abbey. Speaking of which, I was just sitting on the couch watching reruns of Downton Abbey, and I really felt like they were all terribly mean to Thomas throughout season six. I mean, I know he hasn’t been the nicest guy through the series, but he was trying to change for the better and . . . Where were we? Oh, right: this ridiculous story you’ve chosen to read for reasons passing understanding (no refunds). Nobody’s God is about the existential implications of a universe where gods can exist and have dominion over things like thunder, war, bluetooth speakers, and, well anything they choose when coming into their divinity. But if the universe has no inherent meaning, and someone becomes the god of nothing, then . . .
