Six-String Demon
A Rock & Roll Supernatural Thriller

Some Gigs Are Hell . . .
Guitarist Jen Farmer has already lost her record deal, her shot at stardom, and most of her self-respect, but things are about to get a lot worse. Reduced to playing house parties, she’s offered a gig with aging frontman Johnny Jacks and his band of rock and roll rejects performing for a sick kid’s birthday. But neither Jacks nor the kid are what they seem, and soon Jen is drawn into a battle of wills and music that threaten both her soul and the safety of the world.
Story Behind The Story
“Bring forth the Rickenbacker!”
That’s really all I started with: one preposterous line, delivered in a thunderous roar by an aging rock singer. For those who love guitars, the old Rickenbackers hold a special place in many hearts. Twangy, loose, and haunting, the Ricky is most often recognizable in the arpeggios of 1960’s pop songs. The Beatles used them on many an early album, as did many of the bands that followed in their footsteps. I actually owned a Rickenbacker during my full-time musician days. Well, owned may be too strong a word: my brother had lent me his 1964 Ricky 450 on semi-permanent loan. It was stolen (along with my precious 1976 Fender Starcasters) by an unscrupulous fellow who sometimes helped us find vintage gear, but mostly, it turned out, helped himself to our vintage gear. There’s a magic to Rickenbacker’s; I’m not sure what it is, but it’s there. I think that’s why that line kept coming into my head: “Bring forth the Rickenbacker!” So eventually I sat down and let the story come out, about a jaded guitar player who’s been told one too many times that she doesn’t have the ‘soul’ for soloing, and a misbegotten crew of musicians come together for a secret purpose.
